MIDHURST is a delightful small town about three miles north of the ridge of the south downs, sitting quietly on the banks of the tiny River Rother.
It is perhaps most famous for its polo ground, much loved and visited by our royals and peers, which is overlooked by the ruins of 'Cowdray':
The town has always been quite 'well-heeled' , as you might expect, and has some very nice restaurants and the world renowned Spread Eagle Hotel which dates from 1430. The hotel is renowned for the christmas puddings which hang from the ceiling of its restaurant ..... oh, and the food is pretty good !
